Daveįinally, Apple's chargers come w/ L-shaped & T-shaped connectors - there are 5 pins (see diagram below from Wiki) - the outer pins are ground, pins 2 & 4 carry power, and the middle pin is for information exchange - the surrounding gray portion is magnetic the outer aspect of the connector carries no charge. Battery not charging and not detected Hi, I have a 2008 A1181 MacBook. Hello again - first, you've answered none of my previous questions - please respond: 1) Go to the first link I provided and tell us which specific laptop you own (there are over a dozen listed) 2) Can you download Coconut Battery to the computer or is the machine completely DEAD regardless of its attachment to a charger and 3) Is the Apple Store (shown in my previous post) in your city still open?Ĭoncerning whether your MacBook is 'broken', the possibilities are too numerous to make a guess - here is a simple chain of potential problems (which may be one or several): AC Power from you wall socket -> Charger (multiple levels) -> Connection to the laptop (and charging electronics) -> Battery -> Computer other than battery - there is simply no way to provide you a definite answer - I'm 5,000 miles away - go to your Apple store, if possible?įinally, Apple's chargers come w/ L-shaped & T-shaped connectors - there are 5 pins (see diagram below from Wiki) - the outer pins are ground, pins 2 & 4 carry power, and the middle pin is for information exchange - the surrounding gray portion is magnetic the outer aspect of the connector carries no charge. 'My MacBook doesn't work', I'm assuming that the machine does not work whether on or off the charger - correct? If so, hard to give advice - I was going to suggest obtaining the free Coconut Battery App which gives stats on the status of your battery (see image below from my MBPro which has a fairly new replacement battery), such as designed capacity and cycles used - BUT, if you can run this app on your MacBook, then provide us w/ the information shown (or a screen capture).įinally, if indeed the computer is 'dead', then have you tried to visit a repair shop or an Apple Store (there seems to be one in your city - second pic below) - Apple could run diagnostics (but don't be surprised if they refuse due to the age of your machine) - maybe time to look for a new laptop? Good luck - Dave Apple 85w Power Adapter MagSafe 1 (L) Style Connector for MacBook Pro, Retina 15 inch 17 inch (85w Mag1 ) Rated 4.71 out of 5. ![]() Hello and welcome to the forum! Looking on EveryMac in their 'Lookup' section, the model number above shows MacBooks introduced from 2006 to 2009 (check the link and tell us the specific one) thus, you have an 'old' laptop and the battery, as already suggested, may be the problem (unless replaced) also, I would suspect the computer to work w/ a proper charger attached, so a couple of issues.įrom your last statement above, i.e. ![]()
